Your wardrobe is already shaping your personal brand. The question is: are you shaping it intentionally?
Clothes are a powerful communication tool, yet they are often overlooked, minimised or trivialised.
Perhaps it's because we process and judge at such a rapid, unconscious rate that we don’t think about it until the stakes are high. Moments like photoshoots, pitches and keynotes bring a feeling of panic to the surface when we imagine how others may perceive us, or how we’ll go down in history.
Your style forms a huge part of your personal brand every single day.
How you show up to client meetings, your Zoom calls, and how you move through the world is your personal brand. The high-stakes, isolated moment is just one spotlight.
Take a moment to consider your personal brand “look” through the eyes of others across your week. I always advocate dressing for yourself first and foremost. However, when you are your brand, the image you project counts. The multiple spaces and identities you inhabit paint a picture, whether you like it or not.
So what can you do about it?
If you’re building a personal brand, my top tip is to be strategic about your style and outfits, just as you would with any other part of your brand or communication strategy. What do you want to say? Who do you want to connect with? How do you want them to feel? How do you want to be perceived?
I always recommend starting in your own wardrobe before buying a single thing. Your wardrobe holds clues about who you are and what you value. It reflects your past and hints at your future. It is one of the most tangible systems you interact with every day. When used strategically, it becomes one of the most powerful systems of support you can leverage.
For one-off “I’ve got a photoshoot and I don’t know what to wear” moments, I’ve added a new standalone service (due to popular demand) to help you with styling aligned to your brand brief and photographer.
